Are EM plates exposed after fumigation?

After fumigation in a cleanroom or controlled environment, exposing Environmental
Monitoring (EM) plates is not typically done immediately.

After fumigation, there is usually a waiting period to allow the disinfectant or fumigant to
dissipate or settle. This ensures that any residual chemicals in the air wonโ€™t interfere with the
microbial growth on EM plates.

Air Quality Testing
Following the waiting period, the room’s air quality is checked to ensure that the fumigant
has been properly ventilated and that conditions are safe for personnel and the environment.

Exposing EM Plates
Once the room has been cleared, EM plates (such as settle plates, contact plates, or active air
samplers) can be exposed to monitor the microbial load in the environment post-fumigation.
This helps verify that the fumigation process has been effective in reducing microbial
contamination to acceptable levels.
